FAQ:

Q: Do Australians need visas to enter Viet Nam.

A: Yes, Australian need visas to enter Viet Nam. You should have a full passport with validity more than 6 months and at least one page left. 

Q: Can the Embassy help us to answer questions related to application made at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn or evisa.immigration.gov.vn?

A: No, the Embassy is unable to answer your questions or enquiries relating to a direct application on above websites. Please read and follow the instructions carefully in the e-portal website of the Vietnamese Immigration Department or make enquiries at foreigners@immigration.gov.vn.

Q: Can I use a travel document to enter Viet Nam?

A: The Vietnamese Immigration Department does not accept travel document. You need to have a valid passport and visa. 

Q: If I cannot apply for e-visa by myself, can I ask for the Embassy's staff assistance?

A: You should try sometimes at different times on a windows pc/laptop on edge/chrome browser. Please note that we are unable to provide technical assistance. 

Q: Can I send you my itinerary and the Embassy's staff will tell me how long and how many entries visa I need to? 

A: You should check information with your travel agency or look at your agenda to decide how long and how many entries you need because we may not have time to look at your itinerary and give you advise. You will need multiple visas if you are going to enter Viet Nam's land many times (via the Immigration checkpoints), for example to visit local landscapes at different stops along your cruise trip.  Please note that you will need to have visa even you only transit in Viet Nam but need to recheck your luggage or take a domestic connecting flight (for example between Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City).

Q: Can I get a paper (sticker) visa to my passport?

A: Yes, if you don't know how to do, you can write an email to us ([email protected]). Please provide your information (nationality), itinerary and when you need your visa. Sticker/loose-leaf visa is valid to enter any port in Viet Nam.

Q: Can I get a visa on arrival?

A: Yes, but in limited circumstances and you need to have a pre-arranged approval letter from the Vietnamese Immigration Department. If you don't know how to do, you can write an email to us ([email protected]) but no later than 2 p.m in the working day (Canberra/Sydney time) for an approval letter issued at 10 p.m in a same day (Canberra/Sydney time). Please provide your information (including nationality), itinerary and when you need your visa.

Q: Which foreign citizens are exempt from Viet Nam visas for 45 days?

A: Federal Republic of Germany, Republic of France, Republic of Italy, Kingdom of Spain, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Russian Federation, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kingdom of Denmark, Kingdom of Sweden, Kingdom of Norway, Republic of Finland and Republic of Belarus with a temporary residence duration of 45 days from the date of entry, regardless of passport type, purpose of entry, provided that all entry conditions according to Vietnamese law are met.

Traveler needs to use valid passport of above country to enter and exit Viet Nam (not emergency passport or Bristish National Oversea) with the validity more than 6 months and at least one blank page left.

Q: Do I need a visa if I only have a transit in Viet Nam?

A: 

- Foreigners transiting by air are exempt from visas and must stay in the transit area at the international airport while waiting for their next flight. If they need to go through an Immigration checkpoint to, for example, re-check their baggage or to take a domestic flight, they will need to get a visa before departure.

- Foreigners that transit by sea are not required to obtain a visa and must stay within the transit passenger area of the seaport while the ship is anchoring.

Q. How can I get a visa exemption to Phu Quoc Island?

A: Travellers are exempt from visa for 30 days only when you enter Phu Quoc directly through an international airport outside Viet Nam or through a Viet Nam International Airport but only stay in the transit area and wait for the connecting flight to Phu Quoc.
