A record for Overseas Vietnamese to enjoy 2010 Lunar New Year

There are two major reasons for the forecast, including the positive changes for the development of the world economy in 2009 and a lot of back - to – the - root festive activities in 2010, said Mr Tran Duc Mau, Deputy head of the Vietnam National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

As usual, on the coming Lunar New Year, the Committee for Vietnamese Overseas under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with Vietnam Television, will broadcast live an international television show titled Homeland Spring for Vietnamese Overseas on December 23 lunar year.

Last year’s event was held in the Temple of Literature called Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam in Hanoi with the participation of over 500 overseas Vietnamese. State President Nguyen Minh Triet attended and sent best wishes to representatives.

This November, the biggest ever meeting for overseas Vietnamese was held in Hanoi, luring over 900 representatives.

Currently, there are over 4 million overseas Vietnamese are living in nations and territories worldwide. This community has transferred about 8 billion USD remittances in 2008.
