The Embassy of Vietnam in Australia is coordinating with relevant Australian agencies to advance the implementation of agreements and outcomes reached during the State Visit to Australia by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam To Lam last month, contributing to deepening and strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries in a substantive and effective manner.
On September 7, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam held a meeting with leaders and officials from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C), and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government to discuss and coordinate efforts to advance the implementation of the outcomes of General Secretary and President To Lam’s historic visit. Also attending the meeting was Kim Sampson, President of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Society (AVFS).
Addressing the meeting, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam emphasized that General Secretary and President To Lam’s visit marked an important milestone in the history of bilateral relations and was also the first bilateral visit to Australia by a Vietnamese President. The three joint statements and numerous documents announced during the visit were testament to the strong development of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam spoke highly of the coordination by relevant Australian agencies at both the federal and local levels, particularly DFAT, PM&C and the ACT Government, in preparing for and facilitating the visit. He called on Australian agencies to continue working closely with the Embassy of Vietnam and Vietnamese partners to actively implement the outcomes of the visit, particularly the high-level documents and agreements reached by the two sides.
During a separate discussion with DFAT leaders, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam called on Australia to pay attention to and support Vietnam in implementing the “500-Day-and-Night Campaign for the Search and Repatriation of the Remains of Fallen Soldiers.” He also called on Australia to promote key cooperation projects, including the University of Adelaide’s “Enhancing Vietnam’s Skills in Developing the Digital Economy and Semiconductor Industry” project in South Australia. He further urged the two sides to continue close cooperation and mutual support at regional and international forums.
DFAT leaders and relevant PM&C officials agreed to work closely together to ensure the effective and substantive implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries during General Secretary and President To Lam’s visit, thereby contributing to elevating the Australia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new level.
Regarding cooperation between the two capitals, the Acting Director-General of the International Affairs Directorate of the ACT Government said Canberra’s leaders wished to continue visiting Vietnam and proposed that the two sides consider signing a cooperation document between the capitals of the two countries.
Kim Sampson, President of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Society, expressed his pleasure at having contributed to the success of the visit and agreed to continue promoting AVFS activities, thereby helping strengthen friendship exchanges and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
