Canberra, June 28, 2026 – The Embassy of Vietnam in Australia hosted a cultural diplomacy event featuring a film screening and photo exhibition on Saturday evening at the Australian National University (ANU) Film Centre in Canberra, drawing nearly 200 guests.

The audience included ambassadors, high commissioners and members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Australian Government and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), international friends, and members of the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in the Australian capital.

Before the screening, visitors explored a photo exhibition showcasing Vietnam's breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, distinctive customs and traditions, and centuries-old craft villages. Displayed beneath rows of Vietnamese national flags, the exhibition offered a vivid visual journey through the country's natural beauty and cultural diversity.

The evening continued with a screening of Hong Ha Nu Si (The Lady Poet of the Red River), a historical drama depicting the extraordinary life of renowned 18th-century poet Doan Thi Diem, one of the most celebrated female literary figures in Vietnam's medieval literature. Through evocative cinematography and traditional poetic expressions, the film transported audiences to a bygone era while highlighting Vietnam's literary and cultural legacy.

The screening formed part of the Embassy's cultural diplomacy efforts to promote a deeper understanding of Vietnam's history, cultural heritage and national identity among international audiences. Themes of compassion, patriotism and the aspiration for peace resonated throughout the film, conveying universal values that transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries.

The event concluded with warm applause from the audience, reflecting the positive reception of both the exhibition and the film. Organisers said the programme not only fostered greater appreciation of Vietnam's history, culture and people among Australian and international guests, but also strengthened national pride within the Vietnamese community in Australia by celebrating the resilience, talent and enduring spirit of Vietnamese women.
