On 18 August 2026, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam received Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Australia Il Park for a courtesy call at the Embassy of Viet Nam in Canberra. The two Ambassadors exchanged views on bilateral relations between Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea, as well as the two countries’ respective relations with Australia; their experiences of working in Australia; and a number of regional and international issues of shared interest.

During the meeting, Ambassador Il Park spoke highly of the positive developments in Viet Nam–Republic of Korea relations and Viet Nam–Australia relations, and expressed particular interest in the recent State Visit to Australia by General Secretary and President Tô Lâm. Ambassador Park highlighted the warm and substantive ties between the Republic of Korea and Australia, particularly in the economic, trade and strategic fields. He also sought to learn from Viet Nam’s experience of working in Australia and expressed his wish to further strengthen engagement with the Vietnamese Ambassador.

For his part, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam welcomed Ambassador Park on his courtesy call and spoke highly of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea, as well as the close relations between the Republic of Korea and Australia and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and Australia. Ambassador Pham Hung Tam highlighted the breakthrough development of Viet Nam–Australia relations, marked by the recent State Visit to Australia by General Secretary and President Tô Lâm. He also shared with Ambassador Park his experience in establishing connections and engaging with Australia’s federal government agencies, political parties and state and local authorities.

The two Ambassadors also exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared concern, particularly the growing uncertainties in the global political and economic landscape and relations among major powers. They agreed to strengthen engagement, exchanges and coordination, as well as cooperation within the diplomatic corps in Australia.
